On the fifth matchday, Mikel Arteta surprisingly started Brentford loanee David Raya against Everton, and the Spaniard then played in the league and Arsenal’s first Champions League match.

Ramsdale returned in the League Cup, turned a Yoane Wissa shot onto the post and helped Arsenal win 1–0 at Brentford.

Arteta said he wanted to use two goalkeepers with different qualities and select the one best suited to the match plan, while also considering substitutions during a game.

Ramsdale kept 14 Premier League clean sheets last season, was named the PFA’s goalkeeper of the year and was nominated for the 2023 Yashin Trophy.

We know his character and we are very happy to have him with us. I don't think I need to answer questions about Aaron Ramsdale's quality, because I am the one who signed him, while everyone else questioned the transfer.
