Azerbaijan Faces Growing Threat Amid Iran ConflictOn March 5, drones hit Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan region, heightening fears of spillover from the US-Israel Iran campaign.
- Azerbaijan accused Iran of conducting drone strikes on Nakhchivan, labeling the incident a terrorist attack with two injured.
- Close ties with Israel place Azerbaijan at risk of becoming a target in Iran’s expanding retaliation against US-Israel actions.
- Iranian drones with up to 1,500 kilometers range pose a threat to Azerbaijan’s energy facilities and cities.
- In response, Azerbaijan is increasing defense efforts and engaging Turkey, its strategic ally, for security support.
Iranian officials must provide an explanation to the Azerbaijani side, an apology must be offered, and those who committed this terrorist act must be held criminally liable.— Ilham Aliyev, during a meeting of his security council
