Netflix and Mojang Studios are developing a CG-animated Minecraft series featuring original characters and storylines.

Animation studio WildBrain, known for Sonic Prime, will handle the series' visual production.

The Minecraft movie, directed by Jared Hess and starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, premieres April 4, 2025.

The plot centers on four misfits transported into the Minecraft world who embark on a quest to return home.

That's going to be an amazing movie, that's going to be an amazing movie. We have all the resources. It's a big Warner Brothers spectacular. We've got Jason Momoa and Jack Black in it. I think it's going to inspire people. Minecraft's such a cool game. My kids played it; I played it, it's going to be true to the game. And Jared Hess directing is going to do an awesome job.
— Jon Berg, producer of the Minecraft movie, discussing the film's potential and its dedication to the original game.
