- Microsoft says the experimental function will become unavailable after roughly a year of testing for Frontier and Insider customers.
- COPILOT() processed natural-language instructions in formulas and worked especially well for text summarization, classification, content generation, and web-based information lookups.
- Microsoft advised against using it for numerical calculations, retrieving workbook data, or legally or compliance-sensitive content; an active internet connection and Microsoft 365 Premium were required.
- Microsoft says the retirement reflects existing access through the Copilot side pane and Dynamic Action Button (DAB), while the underlying AI features will remain available.
