- Fikile Mbalula said the PEC’s term ended without a provincial conference electing new leadership.
- Attempts to hold a provincial conference in March were hindered by court challenges over branch disputes.
- The NEC approved an interim task team for the Eastern Cape, with its composition due to be announced the following week.
- Mbalula said Gauteng’s task-team term had also expired; the NWC will consider both compositions on Monday.
The Eastern Cape is not disbanded. Its term lapsed, so the National Executive Committee (NEC) has approved that we constitute a Provincial Task Team, and that task team will be announced in the next coming week.— Fikile Mbalula, ANC Secretary-General, at a press conference
