- The fifth season begins 18 months after Season 4, in November 1987, while Hawkins, Indiana, is under military quarantine.
- Robin and Steve host a radio show carrying coded messages as the core group occasionally enters the Upside Down to search for Vecna.
- According to the review, the season relies on familiar formulas, leaves little room for characterization, and features product-placement deals with more than 100 brands.
- The reviewer considers a later shift possible after a moment in the first four episodes recalls the series’ earlier sense of connection and humanity.
Everyday life has never contained more stuff—an endless reel of words, ideas, games, songs, videos, memes, outrageous statements, celebrity meltdowns, life hacks, extremely talented animals,— W. David Marx, in The Atlantic, describing culture as a hoarder’s paradise
