Christian B.'s Imminent Release Raises ConcernsChristian B. will be freed mid-September after paying €1,450, ending his prison term for a 2019 Portugal rape conviction.
- Christian B. is set to be released on September 17 after serving a sentence for rape in Portugal.
- A substitute jail term for assault was avoided by settling a fine of approximately €1,450.
- German authorities suspect him in the 2007 disappearance of Madeleine McCann but have not pressed charges.
- There are worries he might flee abroad after release to evade potential future prosecution.
The former BKA employee transferred the money because she thought the fine was related to an insult against a prison staff member.— The public prosecutor's office reports on the circumstances of the payment.
