- ALS Paramedics has initiated legal proceedings against MEC Siboniso Duma for repeatedly making defamatory statements about their services.
- An urgent interim injunction was denied, but Duma must submit a response affidavit by March 26.
- Employee affidavits revealed that Duma’s comments caused a patient to refuse medical assistance.
- The court will hold a final hearing in May to decide on a permanent interdict against Duma.
The extent of the damage suffered by ALS as a result of the statements made by Duma continues, and will further continue for so long as Duma remains uninterdicted from making further defamatory statements concerning the ALS.— Garrith Jamieson, Director of ALS, in a supplementary affidavit to the Pietermaritzburg High Court, warning that Duma intends to persist in defaming ALS and himself.
