- The NRW hardship commission issued a favorable ruling regarding the deportation threat against the Iraqi couple in Paderborn on February 27, 2024.
- Attorney Judith Herbe received the news during discussions with the Paderborn immigration authority.
- The commission is expected to formally request the immigration office to grant the couple residence permits.
- Advocates from the Paderborn Refugee Council and the lawyer are collaborating to halt the couple’s deportation.
This gives hope, as it means that the hardship commission will hopefully not only make a recommendation but will also request the responsible immigration authority in Paderborn to grant the couple a residence permit.— Judith Herbe, lawyer, on the decision of the hardship commission NRW.
