- Co-creator Justin Halpern said DC demanded the change because heroes supposedly should not perform oral sex.
- The first three episodes were released on July 28, making the censorship visible to viewers.
- The original scene showed Batman performing oral sex on Catwoman; the revised version instead has him massage her foot.
- Further episodes were scheduled to air each Thursday through September 15 on HBO Max.
It's hard to sell a toy if Batman is also going down on someone.— DC Comics (organization) stated this as part of its censorship rationale, according to Justin Halpern.

- Producer Justin Halpern said a new Joker version could offer more than revenge after Harley left the criminal.
- During his normal phase, he fell in love, became a stepfather and practiced meditation before returning to crime.
- After resuming his criminal life, Halpern said he also embraced his beloved family and supported its members.
- The article said that day’s episode would have the Joker run for mayor to secure a Spanish dual-language school program for his children.
“In the same way that Harley is in a good relationship now, we thought, ‘What are the effects of a good relationship on the Joker?’ This is a person who has only ever advocated for himself his entire life. He’s the most narcissistic manchild possible, and now there are other human beings that he loves, and wants to advocate for. How does that change, and what does that look like?”— Justin Halpern, Harley Quinn showrunner, in a Variety interview; explaining why they sought to explore a new spin on the Joker.
