- In the Hollow Earth, Kong’s place of origin, he finds a battle axe that later lights up in his throne room.
- Max Borenstein said the weapon was fashioned from the scales and spine of a Godzilla-like creature.
- During the finale, Godzilla powers the axe so Kong can deliver the decisive killing blow against Mechagodzilla.
- Adam Wingard said further films depended on audience interest; publicly, no sequel was then in development.
To me it’s like Godzilla’s scales have this conductive, radioactive quality and the primate Kongs had a kind of evolved civilization of sorts, as primates might, and simple tools and had used the spine of a Godzilla creature to create it. Presumably there are more like it, but it feels like the iconic scepter of the King.— Max Borenstein — in an interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub, discussing the origin of the axe

- The film was Wingard’s first family-friendly Hollywood production and helped usher cinemas back after one-and-a-half years of lockdown.
- Fans disputed the proportions online, claiming Godzilla was 120 metres, Kong 102, and Hong Kong skyscrapers up to 283 metres tall.
- Wingard considers the computer-generated monsters characters and sought to convey their motivations, encouraging empathy without dialogue.
- Wingard says filmmakers have become desensitized to collapsing-tower imagery since 9/11, while such scenes indulge childlike fascination with destruction.
