- The first new Calmac ferry from Turkey, MV Isle of Islay, will be handed over at the end of December instead of mid-October.
- Delays are caused by global supply chain disruptions and an earthquake in southeast Turkey that affected shipyard workers.
- The Glen Sannox ferry, built in Port Glasgow, will be delivered late September and needs weeks of crew familiarisation before service.
- Currently, two of Calmac’s ten main vessels are out of service, one will retire in November, and another is docked due to an engine fire.
There have been major challenges the yard has had to overcome in the programme; the war in Ukraine affecting the supply of steel, the devastating earthquakes in south-eastern Turkey, which led to a serious loss of manpower in the shipyard, with many of the workers in the yard and subcontractors travelling to the region to assist in the rescue operations.— In a letter to MSPs from CMAL's external chief executive, Kevin Hobbs
