Study Reports Higher Violent-Crime Rates Among Non-GermansIn 2025, police statistics registered 0.2% of Germans and 0.6% of non-Germans for serious violent offences.
- The differences were smaller in the Lower Saxony Survey, but the trend remained, according to Prätor.
- The Criminological Research Institute of Lower Saxony has surveyed young people about crime every two or three years since 2013.
- Prätor cites differing reporting willingness and more positive attitudes toward violence, while rejecting a cultural factor.
- According to the researchers, more than 99 percent of both Germans and non-Germans did not appear in violent-crime records.
When it comes to a cultural characteristic, a clearly higher proportion of members of a cultural group would have to share the attitude.— Susann Prätor, criminologist at the Police Academy of Lower Saxony, one of the study's authors.
