- England supporters were prevented from entering Qatari stadiums wearing crusader costumes to avoid offending the Muslim host population.
- The brutal crusades from 1095 to 1291 left deep scars in the region, making such attire highly sensitive.
- Security personnel at Khalifa International Stadium enforced the ban despite fans objecting to the decision.
- Groups like Kick It Out and Tell Mama advised fans to understand local customs and avoid clothing that could cause offense.
These costumes have "very negative implications" in the Middle East, and England fans should "be mindful and aware of deep sensitivities".— Iman Atta, director of Tell Mama, told the Telegraph about the costumes at the World Cup.
