- The production chose not to use digital effects, posing a health risk to Bale due to the prolonged lens use.
- Bale spent years observing strangers to deeply embody his character, Burt Berendsen.
- Directed by David O. Russell, the movie depicts a 1930s plot and premieres on October 7 with a star-studded cast.
We built this up over many many years. It sounds a bit weird, but I would spot people in the street and follow them and watch them and observe them, says Bale. And then I'd call David and go, 'Oh, I just saw a dude walking by and he's got the voice and the way he walks. He's a total Burt!'— Christian Bale explains during an interview about Amsterdam; quoted in MovieWeb's coverage of his remarks from an Inverse interview.
