- The Seattle Mariners have fired manager Scott Servais following a stretch where the team lost eight of nine games due to a struggling offense. Dan Wilson, a former Mariners catcher, will take over as interim manager. General Manager Jerry Dipoto stated that a new voice was needed in the clubhouse, highlighting Wilson's extensive experience and respect within the organization.
- Additionally, hitting coach Jarret DeHart was also relieved of his duties. The Mariners have posted a team batting average of .216 this season, the lowest in MLB, and are averaging only 3.9 runs per game. The team was outscored 17-7 in a three-game sweep by the Los Angeles Dodgers, causing them to drop to fifth place in the AL West.
- Servais, who joined the team in 2015, oversaw a rebuild that ended the Mariners' 21-year playoff drought in 2022. However, the team missed the postseason in 2023, leading to financial uncertainties regarding payroll. The front office attempted to enhance the offense with low-cost acquisitions, but these efforts did not yield the desired results.
- After a promising start in August, where the team won six of nine games, a subsequent losing streak led to Servais's dismissal. Wilson, who has been with the organization in various roles since 2005, expressed optimism about the team's potential and readiness to take on the leadership role.
