- BAE Systems, the UK's largest defense contractor, has won a £3.95bn contract to construct a new generation of attack submarines as the country progresses with the trilateral Aukus security pact.
- In March, the United States, Australia, and the UK revealed the Aukus plan, which aims to equip Australia with nuclear-powered attack submarines starting from the early 2030s in order to counter China's ambitions in the Indo-Pacific region.
- The submarines will be based on a British design for the next generation of attack boats, which will replace the current Astute class.
