Discovery Suggests Two Planets Share One OrbitA gas giant three times Jupiter's size orbits alongside debris possibly forming a second planet, completing a revolution in 119 years.
- Astronomers identified two objects orbiting the star PDS 70, located 370 light-years away in Centaurus.
- One confirmed gas giant planet shares its orbital path with a debris cloud that may indicate another planet in formation.
- While theory allowed for co-orbiting planets, this represents the first observational evidence of such a phenomenon.
- Further tracking is scheduled for 2026 to better understand the dynamics of these celestial bodies.
It is mind-blowing to me that planets could share the same orbit.— Olga Balsalobre-Ruza, lead author of the study on the discovery of planets that may share the same orbit.
