- Microsoft MVP Nathan McNulty criticized on X on October 20 that Windows offers a restart while updates are still running.
- An early restart can lengthen the wait and make another restart necessary.
- Microsoft says the option is available because other updates requiring a restart may be running at the same time.
- Microsoft is working on clearer notices and says users will be told about a needed restart only after installation is complete.
Thanks for the feedback. We’re working on an improvement to optimize the user experience for both scenarios (restart immediately because the desired feature is ready / don’t restart until everything is installed). In either case, we’ll only notify you about a restart after installation is complete. :)— Aria Hanson of Microsoft replied in the X thread discussing restarts while updates are still installing.
