  • The author sought a replacement because the tool can occasionally become buggy and fail to work as intended.

  • ShareX provides precise pixel selection, pre-save editing, custom frames, backgrounds, rounded corners, and image blurring.

  • The program records video with system or microphone audio and can save short recordings as GIFs.

  • ShareX uploads images, files, and text to services such as Imgur, cloud storage, or Pastebin.
    • The best way to do it ended up being ShareX, a free and open-source tool that's not only great for taking screenshots, but it can do a whole lot more than that, too.
    — João Carrasqueira, describing his decision to replace Windows' Snipping Tool with ShareX in the XDA article.
