- Germany lies in the penumbra, so the eclipse is only partial there, with roughly 85 to more than 90 percent of the Sun’s disk covered depending on location.
- The greatest obscuration is expected in the southwest, including around Freiburg and Lake Constance, while the nationwide peak is expected at about 8:15 p.m.
- Observation requires an undamaged eclipse viewer meeting DIN EN ISO 12312-2:2015 and bearing a CE mark; ordinary sunglasses and unsuitable substitutes do not provide sufficient protection.
- The article cites a camera obscura as an alternative and lists planned broadcasts by NASA and ESA from 7:15 p.m. and by ZDF from 8 p.m., including coverage from Mallorca.

- According to Sabine Frank, the eclipse should be particularly easy to observe in eastern Hesse under clear or lightly cloudy skies, provided the view westward is unobstructed.
- Observation is recommended from 19:15 in eastern Hesse; first contact is given as 19:19, maximum coverage as 20:12, and sunset as 20:46.
- Up to 89 percent of the Sun will be obscured from Germany, making it appear, according to the report, as dark as it has not been since the total eclipse of 1999.
- A special eclipse-viewing glasses or suitable filter is required for eye protection; ordinary sunglasses do not provide sufficient protection, according to Sabine Frank.
