- More than 1,000 people attended Rollerworld's farewell event at the end of November, with 850 skating simultaneously.
- Owners Jason and Anne Khan are closing due to a rent dispute but remain committed to continuing the facility elsewhere.
- The rink, open since 1990, features an Olympic-sized 25 by 50-meter surface and top-tier equipment now being dismantled for relocation.
- Closure impacts the local community deeply as the venue served as a vital social hub beyond just a skating rink.
This is a place in real life that actually connects people together and gives them a way to be social and now that is gone. It's so unbelievable to see the kids laughing and joking and exercising, interacting together in a controlled and safe environment - and that's just gone. That's the reason I'm still fighting so hard to the last second to keep it going.— Jason Khan, co-owner of Rollerworld in Colchester, speaking about the closure and his fight to find a new venue.
