- In 2025 the Böblingen animal shelter received 533 cats; 132 kittens were found and 42 were born at the shelter, and the number of found kittens has halved.
- During 2025, 130 males and 120 females were brought in for neutering, up from 107 males and 95 females in 2024.
- The number of municipalities with a cat protection ordinance increased from ten in 2024 to 18, with Herrenberg scheduling adoption of the rule for 2026.
- Free-living cats are often undernourished or ill, can have up to three litters a year of up to six kittens each, and widespread neutering is presented as the way to break the reproduction cycle.
The cat protection ordinance does not solve all problems, but it helps to improve the situation.— Wolf Eisenmann, deputy chairman of the Böblingen Kreis-Tierheim, commenting on the introduction of a cat-protection ordinance in Böblingen district.
