- Elke Pastor, 77, occupies a three‑meter‑wide mobile home of about 40 square meters that includes a kitchen, bathroom, combined living and sleeping area, a small veranda and a garden.
- The Aukamp mobile‑home park on the edge of Lauenbrück is owned by the Graf von Bothmer family and contains more than 160 addresses; Pastor has lived there for six and a half years.
- Previously owning a much larger house in Spain with six bedrooms and a pool, Pastor worked as an interpreter and realtor and deliberately downsized into her own smaller dwelling, relinquishing much of her art and clothing.
- The house dates from the 1980s but is furnished modernly inside, relies on space‑saving sliding doors, built‑in storage and an air conditioner, and no vacant plots are available because demand rose sharply during the COVID period.
I wanted to downsize in my old age, live more simply, but not in a rental apartment—rather in my own house.— Elke Pastor, on why she chose to downsize and live in her own house at the Aukamp mobile-home park in Lauenbrück.
