We have never watched the parade before, and we said: We must now watch the historic parade – especially with our children, so that they can see how agriculture used to function.

— Frank Schnötzinger from Schnittlingen, in the context of coverage of the Cannstatter Volksfestumzug; he explains why his family is watching the historic parade to show the children how farming used to work.

For the first time in the Cannstatter Volksfest’s more than 200-year history and for the first time in Baden-Württemberg’s nearly 75-year history, the state has not sent a man to the festival’s opening stage, Nopper said, for the first time the state is sending a woman – a minister and, moreover, a genuine Badnerin from Haslach im Kinzigtal to us in the heart of Württemberg.

— Frank Nopper, Mayor of Stuttgart, commenting on the historic milestone of sending a woman to the festival’s opening stage.
