CBS announced Friday that Romo’s nearly nine-year tenure as an NFL analyst with the network would end.

Romo said he would take a break, focus on health and family, then pursue another opportunity.

After his July OWI arrest in Milwaukee, Romo pleaded no contest in September, paid $784, and lost driving privileges for six months.

CBS said J.J. Watt will work with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson on its lead NFL team through the season.

This morning, I faced a recent personal failure by pleading no contest to a civil offense for OWI in Wisconsin. I own this completely.

CBS Sports announced on Friday, July 31, 2026, that Romo would step away from his role until further notice.

The leave comes after police stopped Romo in Milwaukee last week.

Watt played 12 NFL seasons for the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals from 2011 to 2022, recording 114.5 career sacks.
