Zuma’s Politics Blends Faith with PowerZuma’s legacy fuels MK party’s spiritual claims, framing politics as a divine mission amid ongoing corruption debates.
- Jacob Zuma used religious imagery and rhetoric to portray himself as a prophetic martyr during his presidency.
- The MK party has adopted this approach, presenting itself as the only spiritually legitimate liberation movement.
- Religious symbolism is employed to undermine rivals and galvanize supporters through a performative display of faith.
- This fusion of religion with politics threatens democratic values and masks corruption as a divine mandate.
On the spiritual front, it is a divinely sanctioned movement. It channels the mandate of our ancestors and the unseen to liberate the Africans and black people in general from spiritual death and moral decay.— Nathi Nhleko, chairperson and former police minister, describes the MK party as a spiritual movement aimed at reviving African identity and culture.
