- Jackson recommends matching a spirit’s flavors with the flavors in the milkshake.
- For a 12-ounce milkshake, she identifies 1.5 ounces of spirit as a reliable mixing ratio.
- Jackson pairs Maker’s Mark with vanilla, Captain Morgan’s with chocolate, and Tito’s Handmade Vodka plus Grand Marnier with strawberry ice cream.
- Other options include flavored spirits, gelato for consistency, and fresh fruit, chocolate shavings, or whipped cream as garnishes.
To make a good choice, think about the flavors in the spirit and match them to the flavors in the shake.— Jennifer Jackson, enterprise beverage director at Thompson Restaurants, in an interview with Chowhound about crafting and upgrading boozy milkshakes at home.
