Storm Ravages Shops at Osun MarketA violent evening rainstorm on March 12 damaged ten shops in Odo-Ori Market, a key trading hub in Osun State.
- A severe rainstorm on Wednesday evening stripped roofs off ten foodstuff shops in the Odo-Ori Market in Iwo.
- The market serves as a major center for raw food and farm products, attracting traders from Oyo and Lagos states.
- Strong winds damaged several structurally weak buildings, continuing a pattern of annual rain-related destruction in the town.
- Previous relief efforts by local officials and NEMA aided victims, though some promised rebuilding support remains unfulfilled.
“The shop owners had mixed feelings. A woman was crying profusely, wondering how she would get money to fix her shop and recover her losses while some others were consoling her. They were asking her to be thankful that no one was injured and that she was not the only one affected by the damage,” she told FIJ.— Hassanat Agbaje, a student at the Federal College of Education in Iwo, describing what she observed to FIJ.
