- Coach René Wagner describes Thijs Dallinga as an attacker who can play both alone and alongside Ragnar Ache.
- During preseason, Wagner had generally used attacking midfielders or wingers behind Ache rather than a second traditional center-forward.
- Wagner cites Dallinga’s qualities in the penalty area and hopes he can develop similarly to Jakub Kaminski.
- Ache is still expected to start against Würzburger Kickers, while a substitute appearance by 26-year-old Dallinga is considered likely after only three training days.
The profile was relatively clear. From the start we were looking for a player who can operate both on his own and as part of a double-striker partnership. If we ever have to do without Ragy, we need someone who can replace him, but who can also play with him.— René Wagner, on Thijs Dallinga's role and the potential double-striker setup during the press conference ahead of the DFB-Pokal match against Würzburger Kickers.
