Hohenwepel case: Appeal hearing set after girls’ deathsProsecutors appealed, and Paderborn Regional Court scheduled hearings for 17 and 22 December.
- In April 2024, the then 37-year-old man from Baunatal picked up his two children and stepdaughter, caused two crashes during the journey, and was under the influence of medication for anxiety disorders and depression.
- After police confiscated his driving licence in Höxter, he continued driving his car from the crash site in Dalhausen despite being prohibited from doing so.
- His four-year-old daughter and ten-year-old stepdaughter died in the subsequent crash at Hohenwepel.
- In August 2025, Warburg District Court sentenced him to one year and seven months in prison suspended for three years, after which prosecutors appealed.
