Court Upholds Free Speech Against Investor LawsuitBerlin court rejected a 2024 cease-and-desist claim targeting activist Bauer; related case set for December with appeal possible.
- The Berlin Regional Court II ruled in favor of activist Matthias Bauer, dismissing the lawsuit filed by Urbane Mitte Besitz.
- Bauer has long opposed the construction of seven skyscrapers up to 90 meters tall near Gleisdreieck Park, mainly for offices and commercial use.
- The lawsuit arose from a 2024 blog post, with the court prioritizing Bauer's freedom of expression over the investor's claims.
- According to Bauer, the company uses legal pressure to intimidate activists and drain their resources, with an appeal already announced.
We are relieved and happy that the court has decided in favor of freedom of expression – against the attacks of the investors.— Matthias Bauer, after the verdict in a press release.
