- Operating the cranes requires a three-week machine-operator course followed by theoretical and practical examinations.
- Placed into service in 2021, the cranes extend their masts up to 50 metres and reach operating heights of 45 metres.
- One crane can rerail a tram bogie; both vehicles are required to rerail an entire tram.
- Each 48-tonne crane has a 12-tonne axle load, cannot use inbound Cannstatter Straße, and never performs lifting on bridges.
We never crane on bridges. That would be too unstable.— Florian Gödde, head of operations planning for the Stuttgart Fire Department's crane fleet, explains this safety constraint in the context of crane work in Stuttgart.
