- The WWF strongly criticizes Environmental Advocate Maximilian Lughofer for a statement favoring hunting and agricultural interests in wolf management.
- Lughofer calls for clearer legal rules on wolf culling and questions the effectiveness of protective measures like fences and guardian dogs.
- His predecessor Pöllinger had condemned the 2023 wolf regulation as legally flawed, while Lughofer now adopts a contrasting approach.
- The state government is developing a new predator management system to allow significantly easier removal of predatory animals.
The so-called environmental lawyer says nothing about the obvious violations of European nature protection law. He is therefore neither fact-based nor a voice for the environment.— Critique by WWF species-conservation expert Christian Pichler
