Resistance to planned DVB cuts across three Dresden districtsIn Plauen, Leuben and Cotta, Mayor Dirk Hilbert’s savings plan won no majority during the previous week.
- In Plauen, an SPD replacement motion opposing the administrative proposal won majority support and sought city funds for two coming years.
- In Cotta, 11 councillors rejected the proposal and backed city funding; AfD and FDP did not support it.
- In Leuben, only Team Zastrow’s two representatives supported the cuts; route 88 drew attention because of school traffic.
- SPD and Green representatives cited poorer connections, regular overcrowding on route 62, and planned removal of extra trips on route 61.
The cuts aren’t nice. But we need the money, for example, for tasks like youth services, and I want our library to stay open.— Sven Gärtner, FDP, Plauen district councilor; defending the cuts and explaining that funds are needed for youth services and to keep the library open.

- Dresden’s city council could decide on cuts to bus and rail services no earlier than November, according to current expectations.
- DVB is currently hiring almost no one; the hiring freeze is being applied particularly strictly in operations, while workshops still need certain specialists.
- DVB is still providing its usual service with fewer employees; board member Lars Seiffert said overtime could continue rising through the end of the year.
- The figure previously discussed was 100 to 150 jobs across the company, but the final number depends on the council’s decision and operational dismissals are to be avoided where possible.
We are currently hiring almost no one.— Holger Seifert, head of the DVB rail fleet, said this amid looming cuts during a visit to the Gorbitz maintenance yard.
