Polls Put AfD Above 40 Percent in Saxony-AnhaltAt the September 6 state election, several democratic parties missing the five-percent threshold could help enable an AfD-only government.
- Saxony-Anhalt is due to elect a new state parliament on September 6, with polls putting the AfD above 40 percent.
- The SPD, FDP and Greens are at risk of missing out, and if they fail to clear the five-percent threshold, their votes would be proportionally allocated to successful parties, potentially shifting majorities toward the AfD.
- The cross-party initiative “Taktisch Wählen” explains for each constituency how a tactical second vote could help secure a democratic majority.
- A report published by the Society for Civil Rights in June concluded that the AfD violated democratic principles and human dignity; more than 1,000 legal professionals subsequently called for a ban procedure, but no application has yet been filed.
I will vote for a party whose performance I am not really satisfied with.— Franziska Büschelberger, columnist of the piece 'Because it helps against the AfD: Tactical voting!'

- At an event in Magdeburg, Oliver Kirchner supported formally regulating cooperation with the BSW in writing.
- Kirchner said differing positions could produce compromises and potentially allow the BSW to act as a corrective.
- The AfD clearly won September’s state election but missed its goal of governing alone; talks with the BSW continue.
- The BSW plans to abstain in December’s scheduled minister-president election; the AfD has 39 seats, BSW five, and 42 constitute a majority.
I really ask that we let ourselves negotiate this first, fix it in writing, so that no one after two years says: ‘Well, that’s not how we discussed it. Everything that is fixed in writing is there.’— Oliver Kirchner, AfD-Co-Fraktionschef, at a gathering of AfD and BSW politicians in Magdeburg
