Bilawal attributes controversial canals decision to caretaker governmentIn Mirpurkhas, the PPP leader also cited Ecnec’s canal decision and an Irsa certificate he called baseless, concerning surplus water.
- Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said the decision to build new canals was taken under the caretaker government during Arif Alvi’s presidency.
- He also cited an Ecnec decision on canal construction and what he called a baseless Irsa certificate asserting surplus water.
- Although the PPP had only two CCI representatives, the party and President Zardari opposed the project.
- Bilawal condemned India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and announced a PPP rally for May 9 in Shaheed Benazirabad.
He could not support any unilateral decision regarding this canals project as it posed a threat to the federation.— President Asif Ali Zardari, in a joint session of Parliament; quoted in Dawn’s report as part of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s remarks.
