Quick Glance: Citigroup surpasses forecasts on greater loan income; shares rise
  • Analysts were informed by Chief Executive Officer Jane Fraser that the bank is preparing for a small recession later this year, which might be exacerbated by a more severe credit constraint.

  • Citi's deposits were roughly steady year on year at $1.33 trillion, as investors transferred their wealth into money market funds in search of higher payouts.

  • However, Fraser and Mason told analysts that the bank observed an increase in deposits in March, primarily from companies.

  • Nonetheless, the bank experienced an increase in investment grade debt issuance in the first quarter and anticipates a rebound in investment banking activity in the second half of the year.
