  • The adaptation diverges sharply from Orwell’s original, featuring contemporary elements like smartphones and sports cars.

  • Screenwriter Nicholas Stoller and director Andy Serkis transformed the allegory into a colorful story with added characters and a focus on Big Corporatization.

  • Despite a star-studded voice cast including Seth Rogen and Laverne Cox, the film’s message becomes muddled and strays from anti-totalitarian themes.

  • The finale includes a high-energy ‘Mission: Impossible’-style caper and concludes on an unusually optimistic note for the tale.
    • This is the sound of freedom!
    — Napoleon (NaPoPo), the pig antagonist in the animated adaptation of Animal Farm, delivers this line in a scene where he proclaims it as a symbol of freedom.

  • The December trailer instead suggests a science-fiction fantasy reimagining, with Freida Pilkington appearing as a high-tech mastermind.

  • Serkis says contemporary language should connect with younger viewers and allow the characters to develop distinct voices.
