Biontech Focuses on Cancer, Cuts Nearly 2000 JobsBy 2027, Biontech will close multiple sites and cut 1860 jobs to save €500 million annually and boost cancer drug development.
- Biontech will cease production of its COVID-19 vaccine Comirnaty and transfer manufacturing entirely to Pfizer.
- The company is prioritizing cancer drug research, investing €557 million in R&D during Q1 2026.
- Production facilities in Idar-Oberstein, Marburg, Singapore, and Curevac sites will close by the end of 2027, affecting 1860 employees.
- Cost savings are expected to reach €500 million yearly to support commercialization of its oncology product pipeline.
For many Biontech employees, a future vision is currently being dashed— IGBCE, represented by Roland Strasser, head of the IGBCE regional district Rhineland-Palatinate-Saarland
