Quick Glance: Stock Market Update: Market Slowdown, Company Movements, and Investor Sentiments
- The positive trend in the stock market slowed down on Friday, while the market continued on track for a strong week in 2024, with speculations that the Federal Reserve might lower interest rates as early as June.
- Following a rally that led to an increase this week, stocks fluctuated. One company led losses in megacaps, while another declined due to a pessimistic sales forecast. Another company saw rising profits and announced a share buyback plan.
- The benchmark S&P 500 index remained relatively stable after achieving its 20th record this year. The yield on 10-year US Treasuries decreased, and a major cryptocurrency experienced a significant decline from its peak. Changes in a country's control over its currency triggered a chain reaction in Asian markets.
- US equity funds experienced outflows in the week, indicating shifting investor sentiments. Evaluations of non-US stocks became more appealing due to recent movements in technology megacaps, as highlighted by a strategist.

Quick Glance: Swiss National Bank Surprises with Rate Cut
- The Swiss National Bank cut its main interest rate by 25 basis points to 1.50%, becoming the first major central bank to ease tighter monetary policy aimed at tackling inflation.
- The franc dropped following the decision, boosting the euro to its highest level against the Swiss currency since mid-July last year, with Swiss government bond yields also falling.
- Experts like Karsten Junius and Alexander Koch highlighted the significance of the rate cut due to low inflation rates and the strong franc, with expectations for more rate cuts.
- The decision was widely perceived as a surprise, leading to speculation about further rate cuts in June and September, as inflation forecasts were substantially revised downwards.

Quick Glance: Coinbase to Face US Securities Regulator's Lawsuit, Judge Rules
- A federal judge in Manhattan stated that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's lawsuit against Coinbase can proceed, but dismissed one claim made by the regulator against the largest U.S. cryptocurrency exchange.
- The decision is a partial victory for Coinbase and largely supports the SEC's approach to cryptocurrencies, aligning with other judges who have sided with the regulatory agency.
- The SEC sued Coinbase in June, alleging that the firm facilitated trading of at least 13 crypto tokens that should have been registered as securities and was operating illegally as a national securities exchange, broker, and clearing agency without registering with the regulator.
- Judge Failla allowed most of the lawsuit to continue but rejected the SEC's claim that Coinbase acted as an unregistered broker through its wallet application.

reuters.com/business/finance/bank-canada-likely-lead-us-fed-rate-cuts-2024-03-26/
Quick Glance: Bank of Canada Likely to Lead U.S. Fed in Rate Cuts
- The Bank of Canada is likely to move ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve on its first rate cut, as tepid economic growth and cooling inflation are priming up conditions to ease borrowing rates sooner, economists and analysts said.
- Canada may also need deeper cuts in the current cycle, since the economy is much more sensitive to interest rates due to its household debt, which as a percentage of net disposable income is the highest among G7 countries.
- Canada is expected to cut more aggressively over a longer time frame than its neighbor.
- Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem has said that despite two back-to-back soft inflation prints, underlying price pressures in the economy still persisted and it was still too early to consider a cut.
