Quick Glance: He Succeeded! 'Hardest Geezer' Russ Cook Completes Grueling Challenge of Running Length of Africa
- British Russ Cook, self-proclaimed 'Hardest Geezer,' has completed a nearly year-long grueling challenge of running the length of Africa. Starting from the most southern point in South Africa, Cape Agulhas, he finished at Ras Angela, Tunisia, the most northern point of the continent.
- During his journey through 16 countries, Cook faced extreme heat, physical exhaustion, and dangerous situations including armed robbery in Angola and separation from his supporters in the jungle of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Utilizing social media, he secured a visa to cross the border from Mauritania into Algeria.
- Cook has raised over £600,000 for two charities and plans a celebration with a performance by the band Soft Play to mark his accomplishments. The funds collected will benefit The Running Charity and Sandblast. Despite Africa being his most significant challenge, it wasn't his first, having previously run from Asia to England.
- The 27-year-old invited his supporters to run the final marathon with him and arranged a finish line party featuring a live performance by Soft Play in Tunisia. Through this challenge, known as Project Africa, Cook not only pushed physical boundaries but also raised substantial funds for charitable causes supporting the mental health of young individuals and educating about Sahrawi culture.
