- A whistleblower from Boeing is pressing for the grounding of all 787 Dreamliners currently in operation worldwide, as the long-haul aircraft could potentially 'fall apart' at the joints.
- Sam Salehpour, a quality engineer at Boeing, publicly expressed concerns about the Boeing 787 and 777 jets last week. In an exclusive TV interview with NBC Nightly News, Salehpour reiterated his allegations and called for all Dreamliners to be taken out of service and inspected for small gaps in the fuselage.
- He alleges that Boeing opted for cost-saving shortcuts and reduced assembly bottlenecks during the construction of the 787 and 777 jets. Salehpour warns that the fuselage sections of the 787 Dreamliner are improperly connected, with small gaps present at the joints.
- Following internal discussions with Boeing where he claimed aircraft safety was compromised, the engineer filed a formal whistleblower complaint with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in January. Boeing, however, maintains confidence in the safety of the 787 Dreamliner, stating that the allegations 'are inaccurate and do not represent the comprehensive work Boeing has done to ensure the quality and long-term safety of the aircraft.'
