This observation provides insights into the predatory behavior of orcas and suggests that their hunting of great whites may be influencing shark presence in certain coastal areas around Cape Town.

The scene of a killer whale hunting and eviscerating an 8.2ft juvenile great white shark in under two minutes was captured by a tourist boat and published in the African Journal of Marine Science.

John Price, the oldest member of the South African team at the World Rowing Masters Regatta next month, has witnessed many changes at Roodeplaat Dam over the years.

Approximately R9m has been invested to revamp the facility for the September 21-24 showpiece into a world-class course, featuring new jetties and a starting pontoon.

But Price remembers the days when there was only one boathouse next to Roodeplaat and rowers had to carry their boats through reeds to reach the water.

The team includes Ramon Di Clemente, who won the country's first Olympic and world championship rowing medals with Don Cech in the early 2000s, as well as London 2012 lightweight men's four gold medalists James Thompson, Sizwe Ndlovu, and John Smith, and Rio 2016 pair runners-up Lawrence Brittain and Shaun Keeling.

Salt Lake City Public Utilities has been releasing water from its reservoirs, especially Little Dell, for several months after authorities noticed the snowpack was increasing, according to Laura Briefer, director of the department.

Because of the expected large runoff, water managers may release more water from Little Dell this year than usual, she added.

"Flood water flows downstream," explained Rathje.
