Quick Glance: FDA and Abbott reach agreement to restart production of baby formula
- In the midst of a statewide scarcity of infant formula, the Food and Drug Administration reached an agreement with Abbott Nutrition to reopen its Sturgis, Michigan, plant.
- The FDA announced the shortfall after receiving complaints of bacterial infections linked to powdered formula at the Sturgis factory.
- Abbott also stated that a CDC examination found "no conclusive evidence" of a link between its formulas and baby diseases.
- "We know millions of parents and caregivers depend on us, and we're deeply sorry that our voluntary recall worsened the nationwide formula shortage," Abbott's chairman and CEO, Robert B. Ford, said in a statement on Monday.
