Quick Glance: Sesame Street: Elmo Gets Covid-19 Vaccination in Parental Advisory
- Everyone's favorite Sesame Street muppet has received his first Covid-19 immunization as part of a public service announcement to encourage parents to vaccinate their children.
- Elmo, who is supposed to be three (but has actually been around since 1980), appears in a new Sesame Street YouTube video in which he shows off his plasters after being vaccinated, characterizing the experience as "a little pinch, but it was okay!"
- In the PSA, Elmo's father Louie expresses his concerns about Elmo's vaccination, such as whether it was "safe" and "the right decision."
- Getting vaccinated is the most effective approach to keep your entire community safe.
Quick Glance: Texas Senator Ted Cruz blasts Elmo for "aggressively" promoting the COVID vaccine for children.
- Cruz took to Twitter to express his displeasure with a new "Sesame Street" public service announcement starring Elmo and his father Louie.
- "You then have @elmo aggressively advocate for vaccinating children UNDER 5," he wrote.
- The PSA, created by Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind "Sesame Street," in collaboration with the Ad Council and COVID Collaborative's COVID-19 Vaccine Education, was released in response to the recent FDA emergency use authorization and CDC recommendation of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID vaccines for children aged 6 months and older.
- COVID immunization for this age group is another option in parents' toolbox to help their children succeed."
